Arm your Kids’ Immune System with this simple cooking trick.
We tend to skip “seasons” down here in Houston. No, really! Yesterday morning it was 86 degrees and humid, and by evening time it was roughly 56 degrees outside. It’s like the weather saw a state trooper and slowed down. (And yes 56 is winter temperature to me lol!)
With big climate changes comes sniffly noses and the urge to make warm soups and cozy up inside next to my FAKE fireplace. This time of year is also when my helicopter mom radar kicks into overdrive. I want to make sure my girls’ lil immune systems are strong. So I arm myself with tools to make that happen.
A few things I do to keep my little ones immune systems strong:
- Minimize refined sugar
- Use homeopathic remedies consistently
- Buy locally made Elderberry syrup
- Pharmaceutical grade Vitamin Sprays! These are my FAVE!!
- Hide veggies in their food so they get all those natural micronutrients y’all!
We are SET to fight off any flu germs or nastiness that comes our way. And hiding veggies provides the nutrients that #goldfish and #chickfila just don’t provide. #reallifeSo how do I do it in this soup?
Well first off… I don’t lie to them. I hate lying. They actually KNOW I hide the veggies. They even HELP ME DO IT! If they can’t see it, they will eat it. Plus, this gets their taste buds more familiar with the flavors of veggies.
So how many ingredients does this soup have that my kids would NEVER eat if they could see it?
SIX!
An onion, a head of celery, a ton of puréed carrots, fresh garlic, raw organic grated turmeric, and raw grated ginger.
I sautéed all that in high quality olive oil, then puréed it and simmered it with organic chicken broth. Added some chicken I boiled & shredded earlier, some gluten free noodles and WALA! Dinner is served! I serve boiled carrots on the side for everyone to top their soup with, but for the ones that don’t choose to, there’s already carrots in the broth (ha ha!).
I’m telling ya…there’s nothing better to me than seeing everyone finish their food, ask for more, and me knowing this was GOOD & nutritious and nourishing for them.
